 Tools for Evaluating Autism
Among the most internationally recognized and validated assessment instruments are the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule); and ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview, Revised); DISCO (Diagnostic Interview for Social and Communication Disorders); and the 3di (Developmental, Dimensional and Diagnostic Interview). Other assessment tools include the BSE (Brief Behavior Scale) and the CARS (Childhood Autism Rating Scale).
Professionals using these tools must be adequately trained to ensure that the diagnostic evaluation covers the main areas related to autism (communication, social interaction, and repetitive/stereotyped behaviors) and that interviews are conducted as systematically and structured as possible.
Early diagnosis with early intervention is very important in the early years of life.
